Our full day kindergarten program is designed to prepare children for their future academic lives by promoting their cognitive, physical, and social development through an integrated approach. Classroom ratios are limited in size to provide children with that extra special care and to individualize their needs. We are very proud to say that our kindergarten program has earned national accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We obtain high standards based curriculum and emergent curriculum through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) that are unit themes of study, which consists of reading, language arts, math, science, and social studies. Students will deepen their understanding of text by making connections, visualizing, and asking questions. Our lessons offer children opportunities to practice observing, estimating, identifying, labeling, categorizing, classifying, and reflecting on new discoveries in order to make sense of the world. Extracurricular activities are incorporated as well for further learning development and to build a solid learning foundation such as: art, music, physical education, dance, theatre, cooking, computers, community service, cultures, and natural environments. Field trips are offered for enrichment that will coincide with lesson plans.
A variety of individual, small group, and large group activities are incorporated into the daily program. Several learning centers within the classroom have been carefully designed to be a natural extension of students’ curiosity, to build confidence, and to have fun and play together within a cooperative learning environment. Learning centers consist of: hands-on activities, building blocks, dramatic play, math manipulatives, puppet theatre, and so much more. All activities are developed for critical thinking and the ability to grasp abstract concepts. Student’s progress and assessments are carefully recorded to set benchmarks for growth and development. The Brigance and Iowa assessments are strategies and tools utilized throughout the school year for individualized development. Parent/teacher conferences are also offered throughout the school year to keep our close family connection together with working and learning with your child. Our kindergarten activities provide a balanced program of early childhood education that enables each child to grow at his or her own pace and develop a personal sense of accomplishment.
